In March of 2010 I purchased a 1984 Ford Ranger with a rare 2.2 liter Perkins diesel engine, built by Mazda. This little 4 cylinder engine develops a whopping 59 horsepower on a good day. On the other hand the truck gets between 35 and 40 miles per gallon of diesel, so it was well worth rebuilding. The first part of restoring the Ranger was to overhaul the engine. That process began in June and ended on August 29, with the first start of the rebuilt engine.
